Milan 2015: Black and White Textured Whites: The purity of white is becoming more tactile, with textural 3D punch patterns or exaggerated relief in matt finishes. We see the rise of fine intricate detailing, particularly for tabletop product and decorative accessories. Smooth & Seamless: Table lights and shelving units in refined shapes are coloured in single pure black or bright white tones. Whites are predominantly matt or polished, while the appearance of all-black pieces are tempered with gentle punched mesh structures or stained wood grain surfaces. Bold Outlines: Strong black frames in matt finishes outline storage, shelving and chairs, and are also used to encase lighting to exaggerate shape and form. Marble Effect: Freeform black and white patterns mimic marble striations for printed upholstery. Sculpted marble vases and tables by British architect Zaha Hadid for Italian stone company Citco are made of four types of marble to create different effects, including black-on-white and white-on-black patterns.
