Solstiss Lace

Lace comprised of 59% cotton and 41% nylon (polyamide, PA), which has been surface treated with a random “splatter” of soft silicone rubber. The pattern of the lace is geometric, featuring irregular circles and ovals. The application of silicone to the surface changes both the aesthetic and physical performance of the lace. The slight transparency/iridescence of the silicone creates a novel motion effect and alteration to the degree of transparency as the angle of viewing shifts. The lace is produced on a Leavers Loom, also know as a Bobbin Net Machine; this machine was developed in the early 1800’s and was the first mechanized lace production method. The resulting lace is very high in thread count and shows high visual definition of the pattern, as compared to other mechanized means of lace production. The lace is dyed and hand finished, then cut into panels. Silicone rubber is then applied to the face of the lace at random. The textile is available in panels measuring 5 m long by 1180 mm wide (5.5 yds by 46.5 in); custom widths are possible. Three colors are stocked: greige (off white), blue/taupe and black. The lace can be dyed and the silicone colored for custom color combinations per client request. Applications include fashion, apparel, accessories, home décor and residential upholstery.
