Remora Fishing Net The Remora fishing-net system by Spanish engineering student Alejandro Plasencia focuses on the problem of abandoned and damaged fishing nets left at sea, which continue to capture marine life. His proposal uses biodegradable RFID (radio-frequency identification) tags that work via an app, allowing them to be located and repaired. Laser cut from a polymer that biodegrades in four years, the tags’ smarter life cycle requires 54% less energy than traditional retrieval processes.
