Moldable fibrous pulp that contains a mix of rapidly renewable grasses and fibers, including bulrush, bagasse, bamboo, wheat stalk and kenaf. In addition to its environmental credentials (Cradle to Cradle™ Silver certified, compostable and tree-, chlorine- and bleach- free), this material allows for the reduction of packaging weight, and therefore the cost of transportation. The molded forms are rigid and resistant to tears and light pressure or weight. Additives can be incorporated for moisture- and grease-resistance, and to comply with FDA standards. The material is made by pulping sheets of plant fiber paper into a slurry, then forming it into various shapes and sizes with metal molds using heat and water. No bleaching is used in the material process and only heat and water are used to manufacture the finished product. A number of standard molded shapes are available in large volumes, typically a case of 500 pieces. Custom shapes and sizes are available, with or without coatings in any PANTONE color swatch. This material meets or passes FSC Certified Bamboo, ASTM 6868 – Biodegradable Products Institute Certified (pass), Western Michigan University Certified Recyclable and Non-GMO Project Verified. Applications include consumer product and food packaging.
