CRAiLAR Flax

Flax (linen) fiber treated with an enzymatic process to produce soft, fine fibers comparable to cotton making it suitable for knitting as well as weaving. Requiring less water and resources to produce than cotton, flax is rapidly renewable and can act as a more sustainable option to cotton, cotton alternatives such as viscose, or synthetic fibers. The modified flax fibers are comfortable, breathable, strong, dry quickly, and wick similarly to synthetics. The CRAiLAR process removes the lignin from the flax so that only fine flax fibers remain. The fiber is sold in 220kg (485 lb) bales and can be blended with a variety of other fibers including naturals or synthetics. Flax is naturally taupe in color but can be dyed with any dye suitable for cellulosic fibers. The material can be customized through the choice of yarn blends and fabric construction. Applications include woven or knitted fabrics for underwear, apparel and furnishings.
