This allows for multi-fit support rather than custom fitted garments, opening up a market for mass-produced items that still provide a personalised fit.Both US space agency Nasa and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) are developing robotic meshes for humans and machines, improving on current space suit and drone designs. Rebecca Kramer, a robotics researcher at Purdue Institute, recently unveiled a robotic skin developed with Nasa that can shrink to up to 60% of its initial area when activated by heat. Made from flexible polymers with an interwoven shape-memory alloy, the skin is designed to be stretched across existing robots, beginning with drones.
