Julia Lohmann

Seaweed is a marine plant found throughout the world’s seas and oceans. Substances derived from seaweed, including agar, alginate and other chemical derivatives, are mainly used in processed foods, drinks and cosmetics. Beyond food, seaweed is used as a fertiliser, but it can also be used as a decorative material.

London based multi-disciplinary designer Julia Lohmann has been captivated by seaweed since she completed a residency in Sapporo, Japan. Her experimentation with seaweed is ongoing, with the objective being to demonstrate its capability as a material.
