Corrugated paper and resin composite that has high strength with minimal materials and low weight. The paper is sourced from wood industry waste and the resin is formaldehyde-free. The resin reinforcement of the paper waste eliminates the need for facing with sheet materials, as commonly seen in corrugated cardboard boxes; this minimizes material usage and keeps the product lightweight. The material is strong against impact, and typically rebounds to its original shape after deformation. Waste paper scrap is bound together in layers with the resin to form a thick, stiffened paperboard composite, which is then pressed and shaped into the corrugated wave structure. Once in its final form, the corrugate can be formed into many shapes through the use of rigid rails and framing to create the edges and framework of the packaging or crate, etc. Single and double ply versions are offered, with widths of 0.49 (12.4 mm) and 0.5 in (12.8 mm), and densities of 4.7 lb/ft2 (77 kg/m2) and 6.5 lb/ft2 (104 kg/m2 ) respectively. The material is offered in its natural color, a medium brown with random light brown patches. Engineering a design optimization is offered to customize the corrugation dimension and spacing for a particular application or requirements. Physical testing for the 1-ply and 2-ply have been undertaken according to ASTM D1037 standards and results are respectively: compression 37.3 psi (0.26 MPa), 62.3 psi (0.43 MPa); modulus of rupture 1,352 psi (9.3 MPa), 2,034 psi (11.0 MPa), modulus of elasticity 178,926 psi (1,234 MPa), 238,530 psi (1,645 MPa). Applications include protective packaging, industrial crating, box reinforcements, sound paneling, decorative walls and core materials for hollow core components such as in furniture and construction.
