Plastic resin that is a version of polyester and contains a bio-based component. This polyethylene isosorbide terephthalate (PEIT) is produced using isosorbide as a monomer that is derived from natural starch. The thermoplastic has a higher heat resistance than standard PET (HDT of 110C; 230F) and also has a low processing temperature and easy moldability This PET type resin contains 4 monomers: Ethylene Glycol (EG), pure terephthalic acid (PTA), cyclohexane dimethanol (CHDM) and isosorbide, the content of which can be varied depending on the properties required. The resin has excellent clarity (light transmittance of 89%), achieves a good gloss, and has good impact strength (no break from an Izod notched impact strength test at 23°C; 73°F). It has a density of 1.27 gcc. The resin is offered clear, but can be pigmented any color. There are a number of grades of this resin for different applications: YH for household goods, YA for appliances, YF for food contact (FDA approved for food contact), YM for automotive use, BS for sheet production, BE for extrusion blowing molds and BP for profile production. It is suitable for consumer products, food storage containers, beverage vessels and cosmetic packaging.
