Serif For many years, televisions have been designed as non-objects; flat-screen voids, hung on a wall, that only gain a sense of identity through the images that they show. Serif, designed by French designers Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec for Samsung, is a rebuttal to this tendency. The television has a distinctive form, a capital “I” replete with serifs, the bottom one of which enables the television to be free-standing, the top one acting as a small shelf. The front of the television is a conventional screen, while the cables at its back are concealed by a fabric panel. It is a return to the television qua furniture.
